Sandy Schenker Capell Scholarship

The Sandy Schenker Capell Scholarship was created to honor Sandy and her commitment to mentoring and developing young talent. 

A single $2,500 scholarship will be awarded each year to a Houston, and surrounding areas, high school senior interested in a future career in media. The ideal candidate will represent the qualities that Sandy exuded in her daily life: Commitment, Leadership, Motivation and Determination. 

Applicants will be considered based on educational and career goals, along with activities and honors, service to community and references.

 

Funds must be used for educational purposes.

APPLICATION DUE DATE: WILL NOT ACCEPT APPLICATIONS AFTER APRIL 1, 2026.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
1. Candidate must be a high school senior attending a high school within the following school districts: 

Alief, Aldine, Angleton, Channelview, Clear Creek, Conroe, Crosby, Cypress-Fairbanks, Deer Park, Friendswood, Fort Bend, Galena Park, Houston, Humble, Katy, Klein, La Porte, Lamar, Magnolia Montgomery, New Caney, Pasadena, Sheldon, Spring, Spring Branch, Tomball, and Waller. 
 

The Media Alliance of Houston Scholarship Committee will review all applications.

This committee will make the final award selection based on the merits of the applicant.

The scholarship winner will be notified in May 2026, and will be formally announced in July 2026 at our organization's monthly luncheon. Attendance is not mandatory, but encouraged and welcomed.

 

Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.
