First, thank you to the group of people who had enough faith in me to nominate me for this position. I was beyond flattered at the time, and, now, as my term ends, I am very grateful to have been given such a tremendous opportunity for growth.
This position has allowed me to forge invaluable relationships with professionals in most media organizations in the market. I’ve learned how to better communicate my expectations and my limitations, how to evaluate my resources and prioritize their allocation, how to trust that YES, someone else can do the job and do it well, and how taking one minute to write a thank you note or acknowledge a job well done can inspire a person to far exceed any goal I ever thought to dream.
It's not too hard to squeeze in a luncheon once a month and catch up with colleagues and friends. But, unless you get truly involved with this organization, you’re missing out. You’re preventing yourself from making contacts with people who are in a position to offer you a promotion or a client referral. You’re cheating yourself out of the chance to meet a mentor or make a friend. I would encourage you to find a way to get more involved with MAH over the next year and do what you can to ensure the organization not only grows, but thrives.
It is now my pleasure to introduce you to your new President, Jenny Tucker, of KHOU TV. I have been fortunate to work closely with Jenny over the past year. Jenny has a very clear vision of where she'd like to lead this organization during her tenure, and I believe she just might possess enough tenacity, enthusiasm and charm to pull it off. Please join me in welcoming Jenny to her role as the 2012-2013 MAH President. I wish you much success!
All the Best,
Crystal Halliburton
Past President, Media Alliance of Houston
